dc.description	The effect of the pruning intensity on the production of Pinus elliottii Engelm. in Piratini, RS, was studied in a randomized block design with four treatments and four replications. The treatments were: T1 - control, without pruning; T2 - pruning of 40% of the total height; T3 - pruning of 60% of the total height; T4 - pruning of 80% of the total height. It was observed that the diameter and wood volume were affected by the pruning intensity of the 13 year old stand. It is concluded that pruning intensities below 40% of the total height should be employed because of the lower production loss, and increment in diameter and quality of the wood.	en-US
dc.description	Estudou-se a influência da intensidade de desrama sobre a produção de Pinus elliottii Engelm., no município de Piratini, RS, em um experimento em blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições e quatro tratamentos, definidos por: T1 - testemunha, sem desrama; T2 - desrama de 40% da altura total; T3 - desrama de 60% da altura total; T4 - desrama de 80% da altura total das árvores. Observou-se que o diâmetro e a produção de madeira foram fortemente influenciados pela intensidade da desrama, aos 13 anos de idade. Os resultados permitem concluir pela recomendação da utilização de desrama com intensidade inferior a 40% da altura total das árvores, os quais permitem menos perdas em incremento diamétrico e produção e aumentam a qualidade da madeira assim obtida.	pt-BR
