La ironía raramente es abordada desde una perspectiva filosófica, y menos cuando se trata de cuestiones  propias de la metafísica, como el problema de la verdad o la cuestión del sujeto. Desde Hegel en adelante,  tan sólo y ocasionalmente algunos autores han considerado como propiamente filosófico el tema de la ironía y, por ello, pensadores como el irónico Michel de Montaigne, son a menudo considerados marginales en la  historia de la filosofía, incluso, a pesar que él inició el estilo filosófico moderno por excelencia, el ensayo. En  este artículo propondré una lectura metafísica de la obra del autor francés atendiendo al estilo irónico de sus ensayos. Teniendo en cuenta las nociones de conocimiento y subjetividad, me adentraré en las lecturas que  se han hecho sobre el carácter “socrático” de los Essais, mostrando su relevancia filosófica y, por ende, el  peso del concepto de ironía en cualquier reflexión filosófica actual.Irony is rarely discussed from a philosophical perspective and even less when it is a question of Metaphysics,  like the problem of truth or the question of the subject. From Hegel to our days only occasionally scholars  have studied irony and, for this reason, thinkers as the ironic Michel de Montaigne are often considered  marginal authors in the history of philosophy, despite his central contribution to the modern philosophical  style with the essay. In this article, I propose a metaphysical reading of the work of this French author taking  care of the ironic style of his essays. Taking into account the notions of knowledge and subjectivity I will  analyze the readings that have been done on “the Socratic” character of the Essays showing their  philosophical relevance and, therefore, the weight of the concept of irony in any contemporary philosophical  reflection.
