Este trabajo explora el uso de contratistas militares privados como tropas irregulares en la actualidad, lo cual se hace mediante el análisis de la historia del Wagner Group y su participación en las diferentes fases del conflicto ucraniano y sirio. Durante estos eventos los empleados de esta empresa militar privada participaron como combatientes irregulares (siempre en pro de los intereses rusos), en lo que podría ser considerado como un uso rampante de mercenarios, al tener similitudes con la descripción que la Convención Internacional contra el reclutamiento, la utilización, la financiación y el entrenamiento de mercenarios da de estos. Así mismo, en este documento se podrán evidenciar los métodos usados por esta empresa militar privada, las cuales varían en los diferentes momentos y lugares donde se han desplegado sus efectivos, ya que en la anexión de Crimea tuvieron un rol principalmente disuasivo, pero más tarde, durante la guerra del Dombás comenzarían a tener funciones de tropas ligeras y comandos, lo cual se mantendría durante la Guerra de Ucrania; y paralelamente cumplirían funciones de fuerza represora progubernamental y entrenadores en Siria, donde han sido vitales para mantener a Bashar al-Ásad en el poder.This work explores the use of private military contractors as irregular troops in today wars, which is done by analyzing the history of the Wagner Group and its participation in the different phases of the Ukrainian and Syrian conflicts. During these events the employees of this private military company participated as irregular combatants (always in favor of the Russian interest), in what could be considered a rampant use of mercenaries, having similarities with the description that the International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries give of these. Likewise, this document will show the ways of action used by this private military company, which vary at different times and places where they have been deployed their contractors, since in the annexation of Crimea they had a mainly deterrent role, but later, during the Donbass War, they would begin to have the functions of light troops and commandos, which would be maintained during the Ukrainian War; and at the same time they would fulfill functions of pro-government repressive force and trainers in Syria, where they have been vital in maintaining Bashar al-Assad in power.Especialización
