Resumen
This study analyzed the differences and applicability of lower extremity mean propulsive velocity among cyclists, skaters, long-distance athletes, and middle-distance runners residing in hyperbaric areas of the department of Boyacá through different percentages established for maximum repetition (RM) in the concentric squat exercise on the Smith machine. Thirty-eight male and female athletes from the modalities of cycling, athletics and skating voluntarily participated in the application of the 1RM test using mean propulsive velocity (VMP) in the concentric phase, as a predictor of intensity (% of 1RM) for each series, taking into account that this value of mean propulsive velocity could not be less than ∼1.00 m s −1 (range: 0.95-1.05 m s −1). since at this moment the test would end. VMP was independent of relative strength, although it was found that, in track athletes, the use of loads closer to 1RM was more favorable to them compared to skaters and cyclists. Thanks to these results, a comparison can be made on how the VMP can be used as a determining value when establishing the intensity of the athletes' training, since it allows manipulating the variables at the time of the test and thus being able to have greater control of the athletes' performance.
