Resumen
Obesity and overweight are a growing challenge for public health around the world, and Colombia is no exception. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the rate of obesity has increased dramatically, reaching 2.1 billion older adults suffering from this pathology. In particular, the weight of women in Colombia has been a cause for concern due to its negative impact on the health and well-being of the female population. Obesity is defined as an excessive accumulation of body fat that can increase the risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. In addition, obesity can also have psychological and social consequences, affecting the quality of life of Colombian women.
The WHO with the slogan "we all need everyone" invites to raise awareness about the way in which this disease is being understood, its causes and consequences, and also proposes to encourage health promotion, within the framework of the action plan with improvements in policies for healthier environments (Ministry of Health and Social Protection, 2021).
In this order of ideas, achieving an immersion in the perception of individuals, as an individual mechanism that consists of receiving, interpreting and understanding the signals coming from the outside and achieving an internalization of a phenomenon, allows us to obtain data that will guide a route to achieve an objective. (Briceño, 2021).
With the aim of raising awareness of the current situation of obese women and creating intervention strategies, it is necessary to develop a research project that clarifies the individual, social and family factors that women perceive from their experience as women with obesity.
