Resumen
Water quality is a problem of concern worldwide. The lack of good water quality in developing countries has negative consequences on human health. Some pollutants are considered of public interest such as infectious agents, toxic chemicals, and radiological contamination (World Health Organization, 2009). In Colombia and specifically in the department of Boyacá there are a significant number of municipalities that have a high risk of water contamination. According to a technical report from the Secretaria Departamental de Salud de Boyacá (SDB, 2022), the drinking water used by the inhabitants of the rural areas of Roa and Carrizal of Sutamarchan Boyacá does not meet the minimum water quality standards stablished in the enforcement act (Resolución 2115 de 2007). Therefore, the main objective of this work was to make a pre-design of a water treatment plant (WTP) to ensure good water quality for these two communities. The pre-design was conducted in base to the raw water characteristics such as turbidity, pH and apparent color. In addition, a set of jar tests were conducted to find the optimum coagulant dose to obtain the best turbidity and apparent color removal.
