Critical thinking is recognized as a transversal competence that in its development must
be mediated by different capacities, knowledge and competences, in this sense, the area of
statistics allows the acquisition of different tools that, being focused on the use of information for
decision making, allows to establish sustainable communicative and cognitive processes in the
process of construction of critical thinking. The general objective of this project is to study the
factors associated with the learning of statistics that influence the development of critical
thinking in students of public secondary education in the city of Bucaramanga. The study is
carried out from a mixed methodology preeminently quantitative that allows from a process of
statistical analysis to verify this relationship, in this case there are two main information
collection instruments, the Cornell test and a statistical test designed from the PISA tests and the
SABER tests, and a complementary instrument, The interview, which aims to delve into the
findings and substantiate from the qualitative environment some elements that can respond to the
evidence found at the quantitative level. The results of the research propose in the first place, that
students maintain a significant advance in the process of learning statistics, evaluating skills such
as interpretation and representation, formulation and execution and argumentation. Additionally,
the study of critical thinking allows to generate a characterization of inductive thinking, judgment of credibility, deductive thinking and identification of shortcomings, to finally taking into account these results propose the determination of the factors associated with the learning of statistics that influence critical thinking. It is concluded that there is a direct impact of learning statistics on critical thinking so that, when knowledge in statistics increases, a development in the dependent variable is proposed.
