Resumen
This document examines the pathologies affecting the Engineering Faculty building, both aesthetically and functionally. The peripheral walkways exhibit significant deteriorations and cracks, possibly due to overloads or soil pressures, such as tree root
effects. A geotechnical study is recommended to verify the causes of the cracks and perform inspections for confirmation.
Furthermore, issues of moisture and deterioration are observed in elements like Drywall, attributable to poor finishes on the facades and lack of weather protection.
The building selection criterion was based on technical, economic, and social factors. Through field visits, the engineering block was identified with the highest incidence of pathologies, including moisture, cracks, and potential ground movements
caused by surrounding vegetation. Disturbing signs, such as complete ceiling element collapses due to organic-related pathologies, require urgent intervention.
Relevant information, such as calculations, plans, previous studies, and construction permits, was collected to identify, and understand the existing pathologies.
Hypotheses were formulated to determine the underlying causes of these pathologies.
Keywords: building pathologies, structural deterioration, cracks, moisture,
