Resumen
The implementation of green roofs is fundamental for treating aspects related to sustainable development in green construction. Designing such a roof aims towards reducing temperature and improving thermal sensation, increasing the absorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) and decreasing runoff. These factors help control high temperatures in places where heat constitutes a significant difficulty increase in everyday activities, which directly impacts quality of life. This research focuses on evaluating the thermal effect and energy consumption of a household in Cimitarra (Santander) through the implementation of three different models of green roofs with different substrate heights. This particular town has registered the highest temperature readings in the department of Santander. During three months, temperatures of the interior and exterior of the house were monitored daily, always at 13:00. As a result of this monitoring, it was observed that all models showed improvement in the aforementioned factors. In short, the implementation of similar green roof models is feasible from the economical perspective, while also being sustainable, functional and also social, by envolving the community in the appropiation of green roof technology.
