dc.description.abstractThe present study in surface design is directed to creation of patterns based on the culture of the Kaingang indigenous population, especially in the South of Brazil. As the main research theme, the reference is the Origin Myth, which consists of the exogamic division Kamé and Kairu of the Kaingang. In this way, looking toward the native people of Brazil and understanding the importance of this culture on a national level, especially on an immaterial aspect, this myth provided references for the development in surface design, with focus on the concept of duality presented there. Therefore, the development of a patterns collection- "GA MYNH - MOTHER EARTH" – for wooden stools, which receive handmade hollow molds painting. The project research methodology is based on the propositions of Bernd Lobach (2001). As a result, 12 patterns were applied on stools, elaborated from a set of several combinations of 10 drawings elaborated as stencil.
