dc.description.abstractFailure analysis are important to identify and evaluate factors that could negatively impact a product or process. There are several methods used in industry to perform these analysis, with some of the most commonly used being Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). These methods can help identify causes of failure, effects, propagation, and develop action plans to mitigate risks, etc. Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is an approach that can aid in managing the system throughout its lifecycle, increasing the probability of delivering a successful project. However, there is a gap between MBSE and failure analysis, as their applications are often done separately, which can increase the chance of errors during analysis and require manual and repetitive work for failure analysis. The objective of this work is to develop a method that can combine the model information with failure analysis. To achieve this goal, evaluations are conducted to understand how the information present in a model is interconnected with document-centric failure analysis and how they can be combined to optimize system development. Then, the proposed method is applied to a case study to elucidate the method steps and discuss the results. It is concluded that the proposed method has the potential to support the transition from document-centric to model-centric, instigate system modeling and failure analysis, avoid rework, optimize the use of information and anticipate to the early stages of the system development lifecycle the problems or failures that would be identified later.
