This study presents an investigation into the existence of spatial autocorrelation in deaths from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and estimates the effects of public expenditures on health and education related to these ailments in Brazil between the years 2013 and 2019. To achieve this, data from Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System (DataSUS), the Brazilian Public Sector Accounting and Tax Information System (Siconfi) of National Treasury of Brazil and Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) were utilized. The findings reveal a reduction in the NCD-related death rate in the country, yet regional disparities exist, particularly notable in the North and Northeast regions, where NCD-related deaths increased during the analyzed period. The developed models indicate a positive and significant relationship between public spending on health and education and the mortality rate due to NCDs. This seemingly counterintuitive relationship can be attributed to factors such as delayed diagnosis or inefficient resource allocation. Furthermore, the analysis unveils the presence of spatial autocorrelation, signifying that NCD-related deaths in one municipality can impact rates in neighboring cities. This spillover effect underscores the necessity of considering spatial interactions when formulating health policies.
