dc.description.abstract | The transport sector is one of the sectors that most leads a region to its development and, for this reason, it has a strong power of influence in the world economy. The road network, currently the main part of Brazil's transport systems, in addition to providing mobility for society, contributes significantly to environmental impacts, both during the construction of a road and in its operation and maintenance. Little is said about the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), such as carbon dioxide, or carbon dioxide, in the stages of production of inputs and construction of a road. Brazil ranks sixth among countries with the highest emissions of greenhouse gases, with an
average of 3% of the world total, according to the System for Estimating Emissions and Removals of Greenhouse Gases. The production of hot-rolled asphalt, which is commonly used in the construction and maintenance of the pavement layer, emits large amounts of carbon dioxide. In this way, studies are in order to create tools for analyzing the environmental impacts in the construction of pavements and in the production of inputs for this purpose, as well as to propose solutions to mitigate the negative impacts and maximize the positive impacts on nature. Therefore, the
objective of this work is to present a world panorama, and especially a Brazilian one, about the concern with the emission of carbon dioxide in the production of asphalt mixtures for use in pavement coatings, and to propose sustainable practices to reduce emissions. Furthermore, research and report on the carbon footprint, equivalent carbon offsets and the carbon credits market, relating to the paving sector, more specifically, with the manufacture of asphalt. At the end of this work, it can be concluded that the involvement of the world economy in the stabilization of carbon credits markets can be a solution to reach the balance of GHG emissions. The use of other types of asphalt, produced from warm asphalt mixtures, is also a solution to reduce the carbon footprint. And, finally, the use of materials such as rice husks, to
separate the carbon dioxide emitted in energy production plants, contributes to the generation of cleaner energy, and can be applied in asphalt plants and in the stages of construction of asphalt pavement. | |
