In this work the utilization of activated lychee peel biochar (ALPB) and Ca-Cr layered double hydroxide for production of a composite was investigated. The CaCr/HDL-ALPB was synthetized by coprecipitation and characterized by SEM-EDS, FT-IR and BET. The composite adsorbent had a BET area of 297.18 m² g-1, with plate-like flakes present on its surface. Adsorption studies were conducted with composite as adsorvent and congo red as adsorvate in aqueous solutions. Composite had a nearly constant adsorption capacity in pH range of 4-9. Kinetic data had a better fit to Elovich model. The maximum adsorption capacity was estimated by Sips model to be 631.1 mg g-1 at 50 °C. Ionic strength experiments show an increase in capacity in presence of other ions. The material showed a good stability over recycling via anion exchange. This new composite has shown itself a good adsorvent towards aimed dye.
