dc.description.abstract | A goal of the Second Decade of Actions for Road Safety (2021-2030) it is to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50 per cent. Therefore, it is necessary to establish road safety actions for all types of users in traffic. About cyclists, needet identify measures to mitigate the occurrence of bicycle crashes. When cyclists are treveling on highways, roads that may be in the path of their usual trips, this vulnerability is even greater. On federal Brazil highways, 10.48 per cent of cyclists involved in accidents died between 2017 and 2021. For federal highways in de State of Rio Grande do Sul, this rate is 9.51 per cent. A solution to reduce these, it is to establish the road stretches with a high concentration of accidents, to determinate the factors that contribute to this accidents and to propose measures that going to interfere in these causes. This paper aims to propose mitigation measuares for bicycle chashes on federal highways in Rio Grande do Sul by the identification of stretches with a high concentration of accidents and factors that contribute to these occurrences. After analyzing the PRF – Brazilian Federal Highway Police – accident database between 2017 and 2021, it was determined that the most critical straight segment is on BR 472, km 573.3 – km 574.3. The most dangerous roundabouts for cyclists are on BR 472, km 577 and BR 386, km 33. The simple roads intersection that is most critical for the safety of this user is on BR 285, km 123. Mitigating measures for the occurrence of accidents with cyclists in these segments are: improvement of signaling, lighting and pavement of roads and intersections and implementation of exclusive lanes for cyclists and velocity control techniques and devices. Understand the critical points, contributing factors and moderating measures of these accidents can be a good practive to increase the safety of cyclists on others roads sections. | |
