This work aims to analyze the traffic flow situation during peak hours for the construction of a new development in Santa Maria. To achieve this, the traffic flow situation was analyzed during peak hours on October 18th, 19th, and 20th, 2022, at the following locations: Point 1: Medianeira Avenue x Acampamentos Street x Fernando Ferrari Avenue, Point 2: Medianeira Avenue x Paraíba Street x Gaspar Martins Street, Point 3: Medianeira Avenue x Floriano Peixoto Street, Point 4: Floriano Peixoto Street x 24 de Fevereiro Street, and Point 5: Medianeira Avenue x Serafim Valandro Street. The methodology used for the analysis involved visual surveys to identify traffic flow and its movements. Additionally, efforts were made to identify peak hours and present trends in flow variations over time. To establish these parameters, traffic engineering concepts were studied to characterize intersections based on vehicle demand. The objective was to provide a diagnosis aimed at enhancing safety, traffic flow, and convenience for both vehicles and pedestrians. Based on the surveys, it was possible to identify important traffic routes that cause significant congestion, conversions with low vehicle volume, and potential alternatives such as new routes and the implementation of intelligent traffic signal systems. The study also provided up-to-date data on vehicle flow, which is crucial for the development. This data helps monitor flow variations and prevent issues such as congestion, increased travel times, changes in traffic patterns, road safety, and parking.
