dc.description.abstract | This paper has as its objective, to analyze and map, based on theories connected to
Cognitive Semantics, the frames accessed in the conceptualization and
representation of different socio-political groups, particularly during insult exchanges
in comments of posts and news related to the 2022 Brazilian presidential election in
the social network Facebook. The utilization of insults is omnipresent in human
language, used in the expression of a myriad of feelings, from familiarity and
happiness, confusion and doubt, to anger and frustration. Frames can be understood
as systems of knowledge that are evoked in the use and comprehension of different
terms, as an example, the lexical item “anti-vaxxer”, which requires adjacent
knowledge such as “vaccines”, “negationism” and “individualism”. For this end, a
quantitative analysis was carried out, which consisted in the compilation of a corpus
containing comments collected in the “g1 - O Portal de Notícias da Globo” Facebook
page, in posts regarding news regarding the, then recent, 2022 Brazilian presidential
election; following that, a qualitative analysis, which consisted in the identification of
terms which had potential to be used as insults or curse words, as well as the
classification of how they were utilized . The classification was based on the cognitive
domains and frames that identify the insult target groups and the users. This way, it
was possible to categorize and illustrate the manners which each socio-political
group conceptualize each other in social network posts through insults and curse
words utilized against their political-ideological rivals and/or opponents | |
