Na sociedade atual há um anseio em adquirir cada vez mais, produtos como forma de bem-estar e realização pessoal. Esta prática vem ocasionando graves prejuízos para o meio ambiente. Este trabalho traz um recorte de uma análise do desenvolvimento das oficinas em design e sustentabilidade para um grupo de artesãos da cooperativa Dedo de Gente, da comunidade de Araçuaí. As oficinas são parte de um estudo oriundo de uma pesquisa científica para atender ao programa de mestrado da UEMG. A metodologia abordou revisão da literatura, em pesquisa qualitativa de natureza aplicada e o uso do método de pesquisa - ação. O objeto de estudo do presente artigo são as oficinas de design e sustentabilidade. Considera-se que o resultado desta pesquisa contribuiu para reflexões acerca do artesanato, suas potencialidades e caminhos a serem trilhados na busca por um mundo em equilíbrio com o meio ambiente. E em decorrência destas reflexões, poder impactar na capacitação das pessoas envolvidas, sua autossuficiência e na difusão de trabalhos artesanais.In today's society, there is a desire to acquire more and more products as a form of well-being and personal fulfillment. This practice has caused serious damage to the population as a whole. While some consume more than their basic needs, others suffer from lack of resources thereby interfering with the planet's balance. This paper presents an analysis of the development of the design workshops for a group of artisans in Araçuaí from the Association Dedo de Gente. The workshops are part of a study from a scientific research for the Design master's program of the UEMG. The methodology addressed a review of the literature, in qualitative research of an applied nature and the use research – action method. The object of study of this article are the design and sustainability workshops carried out. It is considered that the result of this research contributed to reflections about the crafts, their potentialities and new paths to be traced in the search for a world in balance with the environment. And as a result of these reflections, it could impact on the empowerment of the people involved and their self-sufficiency and on the diffusion of artisanal works.
