Objective: To evaluate nurses' knowledge in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital unit in the Amazon about the types of wound debridement. Methods: This is descriptive, exploratory, and qualitative research. Data were collected through a face-to-face interview. The ethical aspects of the National Health Council and the research approved by the Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Amapá were respected. Results: Category I: There is some domain on wound evaluation by some professionals, however, others have a little-grounded literary load; Category II: Nurses have specific knowledge about the types of debridement. However, there is a deficiency in understanding all available types; Category III: Nurses perform mechanical and enzymatic debridements with greater predominance, and report fragility and insecurity regarding professional knowledge; Category IV: The nurses' statements described that there is a lack of training and continuing education in the sector where they work; Category V: The narratives show that the lack of adequate material is the main limiting factor to the performance of debridement by the interviewees. Final considerations: an initiative is suggested, through the Permanent Education Center of the hospital unit, which offers free-of-charge training focused on the theme "Debridement of competent wounds to nurses", to meet those who believe they have difficulty or little knowledge about debridement.
