dc.description.abstractObjective: To identify the role of nursing in the care of patients on hemodialysis with arteriovenous fistula. Methods: integrative literature review, carried out at the VHL, Academic Google and Journal Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), using the descriptors: Renal Dialysis/Renal Dialysis; Nursing Care/Nursing Care and Arteriovenous Fistula, combined through the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. Full articles available in Portuguese and Spanish were selected, with a time frame between 2016 and 2020. Results: The selection resulted in seven studies, three published in 2018 (42.9%), two published in 2019 (28.58% ), one published in 2017 (14.3%) and the other in 2020 (14.3%), with a predominance in the Portuguese language (n= 6, 85.7%). Conclusion: This review highlights the unique role of nursing, through excellence in the care provided, which permeates the assessment, planning and implementation of nursing care, contributing to the reduction of complications and ensuring greater durability for AVF and, consequently, extension of the patient's life.
