El presente trabajo expone la relaci?n entre los resultados del ?ndice de Progreso Social (IPS) y el poder adquisitivo de los hogares (variaci?n del ingreso medio de los hogares menos la inflaci?n) en la ciudad de Ibagu?, durante los a?os 2011 a 2016. Es decir, determinar si el comportamiento del poder adquisitivo de los hogares fue un factor influyente en el mejoramiento o empeoramiento en t?rminos del progreso social en la ciudad de Ibagu?. As? mismo se busca resaltar la importancia de medir el progreso de una ciudad de forma integral, en donde se tengan en cuenta indicadores sociales y no ?nicamente econ?micos. Para esto, se tomar?n como punto de partida para el an?lisis los postulados de Amartya Sen y Martha Nussbaum, en torno al enfoque de las capacidades, con el fin de dar una explicaci?n te?rica a la intenci?n de analizar el progreso en Ibagu? m?s all? de los indicadores econ?micos. La investigaci?n est? dividida en dos cap?tulos, en el primero se realiza una descripci?n anal?tica del IPS en nueve ciudades de Colombia, con el fin conocer las tendencias y comportamiento de los resultados. El segundo analiza las dimensiones, componentes e indicadores del IPS, y los contrasta con el poder adquisitivo; con el fin de determinar la relaci?n entre estos. La investigaci?n concluye con una aproximaci?n de las variables m?s afectadas o m?s beneficiadas por el comportamiento del poder adquisitivo.The present Work exposes the relation between the results of Social Progress Imperative (IPS) and the purchasing power of the homes (variation of average income subtracting inflation) in the city of Ibague during 2011 to 2016. Establish if the purchasing power of homes behavior was an influential factor in the development in terms of social progress, in Ibague. The intention it?s also to distinguish the importance of measuring the city progress in an integral way, where the social index and not only economics, be indispensable for results. For these, it is taken as a starting point for the analysis, the Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum postulates around the capacities focus, with the purpose of bring an teoric explanation to the intention of analyze the Ibague progress beyond economics index. The investigation is divided in two chapters, first one, it realized with an analytic description of IPS in nine cities of Colombia, with the purpose of know the trends and results behavior. Second one, analyze the dimensions, IPS index and components, and contrasts them with the purchasing power for determine the relation between both. The investigation concludes with an approach of the most affected or benefited variables for purchasing power behavior.
