Cuerpo y sexualidad en espacios virtuales: la plataforma Onlyfans y las nuevas modalidades del trabajo sexual

Abstract

A partir de la década de los ’90, el cuerpo ha ganado relevancia en los estudios de las ciencias sociales, incluyendo por supuesto a la geografía. Gracias a distintos aportes, como la teoría queer, la geografía se nutrió de distintas perspectivas que aportaron a la consolidación de la geografía cultural, comenzando el interés por nuevos temas relacionados con el cuerpo, como el trabajo sexual. A su vez, con la masificación de las TICs, se ha dado un viraje y crecimiento vertiginoso de nuevas formas de comerciar y capitalizar la imagen corporal a través de plataformas virtuales como Onlyfans. Este nuevo componente le brinda aún más complejidad y riqueza al tema, permitiendo explorar dicho terreno casi virgen para la geografía, y creando nuevos espacios y comunidades virtuales que ponen de manifiesto la necesidad de una mirada interseccional de los mismos.

From the 90's the body has gained in the studies of social sciences, including geography as well. Thanks to different contributions, such as queer theory, geography was nourished by different perspectives that contributed to the consolidation of cultural geography, initiating interest in new topics related to the body, such as sex work. In turn, with the mass use of ICTs, there has been a dizzying turn and growth of new ways of trading and capitalizing on body image through virtual platforms such as Onlyfans. This new component provides even more complexity and richness to the subject, allowing exploration of this almost virgin terrain for geography, and creating new spaces and virtual communities which highlight the need for an intersectional view of them.
