Resumen: El objetivo del presente artículo es abordar el estudio de la Sociedad de Beneficencia al frente del Hospital del Señor del Milagro de la ciudad de Salta durante el periodo comprendido entre 1864 y 1895. Nos proponemos dar cuenta de los servicios que las damas benefactoras brindaron en esta institución, de sus sentidos simbólicos y morales, de los obstáculos a los que debieron hacer frente y las estrategias que desplegaron para sortearlos y de las relaciones que fraguaron con otros agentes al objeto de atender las necesidades materiales y espirituales de los enfermos. Ello nos permitirá aproximarnos a algunos de los aspectos constitutivos de la beneficencia decimonónica y a la trayectoria particular del proceso de institucionalización de la ayuda social en el espacio salteño.Abstract: The aim of this article is to study the Charitable Society in charge of the Hospital del Señor del Milagro in the city of Salta during the period between 1864 and 1895. We intend to give an account of the services that the ladies benefactors provided in this institution, of their symbolic and moral meanings, of the obstacles they had to face and the strategies they deployed to overcome them, and of the relationships they forged with other agents in order to attend the material and spiritual needs of the sick. This will allow us to approach some of the constitutive aspects of nineteenth-century charity and the particular trajectory of the process of institutionalization of social aid in Salta.
