RESUMEN: El artículo pretende rastrear el estímulo intelectual que el descubrimiento literario de Jorge Luis Borges dejara en el ensayista Rafael Gutiérrez Girardot. Para ello nos serviremos de unas tempranas “Notas de lectura a Gottfried Benn”, publicadas por el joven colombiano en la revista madrileña Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos. Dos aspectos de amplia significación pueden extraerse de esta estimulante influencia: el primero, de índole reflexiva, entraña una concepción estética de la labor intelectual; el segundo comporta una actitud –un ethos ético–que nos enseña que los hispanoamericanos podemos manejar con confianza, rigor y desenvoltura los problemas e inquietudes que caracterizan el complejo devenir del pensamiento modernoABSTRACT: The article attempts to bring to light the intellectualstimulus felt by the essayist Rafael GutiérrezGirardot through his discovery of Jorge Luis Borges‘literature. To guide us in demonstrating this intellectual stimulationwe will use some of Girardot‘s earlies works, “Notas de lectura aGottfried Benn”, which were published for the young Colombian inthe Madrid-based magazine Cuadernos Hispanoamericanos.
