RESUMEN: el presente trabajo realiza un recuento histórico sobre las actitudes frente a la muerte y los mecanismos de enterramiento realizados por la élite en el Cementerio de San Pedro de Medellín. Da cuenta de los inicios y clausura de los primeros cementerios “extramuros” de la ciudad; la fundación del Cementerio San Pedro de manos de la élite antioqueña; se ilustra las actitudes y rituales ante la muerte y las dimensiones y características del negocio funerario adelantado por empresarios de la época.ABSTRACT: The present work makes a historical account of attitudes towards death and the burial mechanisms carried out by the elite in the Cemetery of San Pedro de Medellín. It gives an account of the beginnings and closure of the first "extramural" cemeteries of the city; the founding of San Pedro at the hands of the Antioquia elite; the attitudes and rituals before death and the dimensions and characteristics of the funeral business carried out by businessmen of the time are illustrated.
