RESUMEN: Esta investigación se centra en estudiar la construcción de una de las más importantes vías de Colombia, uno de los proyectos más emblemáticos del proceso modernizador de la infraestructura de comunicaciones del país después de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, haciendo énfasis en el papel que cumplió dicha carretera en la integración del Oriente Antioqueño y Medellín. Durante los años que se llevó a cabo la construcción de este proyecto (1957-1983) la región vivió otra serie de procesos que transformaron la fisonomía de la región y la llevaron a estrechar vínculos económicos con la capital del departamento, tales como el proceso industrializador, la reorganización de la estructura agraria y la urbanización de los terrenos aledaños a la autopista.ABSTRACT: This research focuses on the construction of one of the most important roads in Colombia, one of the most emblematic projects in the modernization process of the country's communications infrastructure after the second half of the 20th century, emphasizing the role it played This road in the integration of Oriente Antioqueño and Medellín.
