However, they can generate pain syndromes and, in many cases, complications or degenerative changes. They can also be fracture sites or even simulate fractures. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of sesamoid bones and accessory ossicles in women and men over 18 years of age in a diagnostic imaging service in Bogotá. A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted in a population of women and men aged 18 or older, who consulted the Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging service of Clínica Universitaria Colombia between January, 2021 and December, 2021. Data was obtained directly from the clinical records and diagnostic images of the patients who complied with eligibility criteria. Statistical analysis was carried out using R and RStudio software. Absolute and relative frequency measures were calculated for categorical variables, and measures of central tendency and dispersion for numerical variables. It was identified that 99.7% of population had hallux sesamoid bone while 21.5% had accessory ossicles as follows: os naviculare 8.4%, os peroneum 7.9%, os vesalianum 2.2%, os trigonum 1.9%, os supranaviculare 0.5% and os calcaneum 0.3%. The presence of sesamoid bones and accessory ossicles could be related to pain manifestations according to their proportionality in the individual's foot.
