On a greimasian semiotics perspective it intends to study the Brazilian best-seller reader and also the evolution of the esoteric narratives in that country. To do so, a list of yearly fiction best-sellers in Brazil is being organized, in between the years 1975 to 2006, based on the ranking of books of a national coverage magazine, “Veja”, which made it possible to formulate hypothesis on the modern best-seller reader’s expectations and, most important, the gradual changing from the esoteric books to self-help books literature in the 90’s. Para tanto, elabora-se uma lista com os livros de ficção mais vendidos anualmente no Brasil, de 1975 a 2006, por meio dos rankings de livros de uma das revistas nacionais de circulação, a Veja, a fim de discutir hipóteses quanto às expectativas de leitura do leitor moderno e, sobretudo, a transformação gradual dos livros esotéricos, nos anos de 1990, em literatura de auto-ajuda.
