The Bolivarian Social Missions are the major social policy undertaken since the Chavez government’s first term in office. Currently, they are relevant both politically and socially. Their successful implementation made possible the positive evolution of most social indicators, as well as the intensification of the political action of the most marginalized sectors of society. It is for this reason that the analysis of the Social Missions reveals much about the character and the development of the Bolivarian Revolution, making it pertinent to the academic debate. The purpose of this article is thus to point out the principal characteristics and political contributions of these social programs, which closely resemble social movements.As Missões Sociais Bolivarianas são a maior política social empreendida desde o primeiro mandato do governo Chávez. Atualmente elas possuem relevância no tanto no cenário político quanto social. Sua bem-sucedida implementação possibilitou a evolução positiva da maior parte dos indicadores sociais do país, bem como uma intensificação da ação política dos setores marginalizados da sociedade. É por este motivo que a análise das Missões Sociais revela muito a respeito do caráter e do desenvolvimento da própria Revolução Bolivariana, tornando-se, assim, de pertinente debate acadêmico. O intuito deste artigo é justamente apontar as principais características e contribuições políticas destes programas sociais que se confundem prontamente com movimentos sociais.
