| dc.description | Este trabajo tiene por objetivo general identificar y describir las variables asociadas a la elección de carrera en estudiantes de nivel socioeconómico bajo en Chile, en el marco de la teoría sociocognitiva de carrera (SCCT). Se compone de tres estudios. En el primero, se exploraron creencias, significados y valoraciones de la elección de carrera en estudiantes de primer año, de nivel socioeconómico bajo, de universidades selectivas. Los resultados mostraron que elementos identificados por los jóvenes como relevantes en su elección pueden agruparse en factores personales, contextuales y de agencia, evidenciando que la SCCT facilita la aproximación a estos procesos. El segundo estudio consistió en el diseño y validación de un test de intereses profesionales para estudiantes secundarios de escuelas públicas. Mediante análisis factorial confirmatorio de ítems, se puso a prueba un modelo de 13 dimensiones. Los resultados mostraron ajuste de los datos al modelo y buenas propiedades psicométricas del instrumento. El tercer estudio buscó establecer si la variable sexo moderaba la relación entre intereses profesionales y meta de elección de carreras con sesgo de género, en estudiantes secundarios de colegios altamente vulnerables. Se utilizaron modelos de regresión logística y análisis de interacciones. Los resultados mostraron efecto de moderación en las áreas de tecnología, educación y salud. | |
| dc.description | This thesis focuses on the study of variables associated with career choice in students of low socioeconomic level in Chile, within the framework of the sociocognitive career theory (SCCT). It consists of three studies. The first one explores beliefs, meanings, and valuations of career choice among low socioeconomic status freshmen, enrolled in highly selective universities in the metropolitan region. The results showed that elements identified by the students as relevant in their choice, can be grouped in personal, contextual and agency factors, evidencing that the SCCT facilitates the approach to these processes. The second study presents the design and validation of a professional interest test for public high school public students. A 13-dimensional model was tested, using a confirmatory factorial analysis of items. The results showed fit of the data to the model and good psychometric properties of the instrument. The third study proposes that the variable gender moderates the relationship between professional interests and goals of career in high school students from vulnerable schools. Logistic regression models and interaction analysis were used. The results showed moderation effect in the areas of technology, education and health. | |
