dc.descriptionUno de los problemas de salud que más afecta a la población es la infección urinaria, siendo los ancianos la población más vulnerable debido a que su sistema inmunitario se encuentra debilitado por el envejecimiento. Este trabajo tuvo como finalidad establecer la presencia de Escherichia coli y Klebsiella spp productoras de betalactamasas de espectro extendido causantes de infecciones urinarias en pacientes geriátricos del Cantón Machala, Ecuador. Mediante la recolección de 200 muestras de orina, durante el lapso enero-marzo 2019, de los pacientes en ayunas y en recipientes estériles determinando en los análisis microbiológicos urocultivos positivos. Los resultados demuestran que el bacilo E. coli es el agente primordial para tal infección con un 71,5 %, seguido por Klebsiella spp con un 28,5 %. Asimismo, el grupo más susceptible a tal contagio resultó el grupo de mujeres ancianas por factores de su anatomía y fisiología deteriorada por la edad y al mal uso de antibióticos o suspensión del tratamiento terapéutico, generando resistencia bacteriana y dando como resultado que esto se agrave y se tienda a usar antibióticos de amplio espectro. Se recomiendan buenas prácticas de higiene en los genitales en las personas de tercera edad y el uso correcto del antibiograma por parte del personal de salud, para minimizar la presencia de estos patógenos bacterianos.es-ES
dc.descriptionOne of the health problems that most affects the population is urinary tract infection, with the elderly being the most vulnerable population because their immune system is weakened by aging. The purpose of this investigation was to establish the presence of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp producers of extended-spectrum beta-ctamases that cause urinary tract infections in geriatric patients in The Canton Machala, Ecuador. By collecting 200 urine samples, during the period January-March 2019, of fasting patients and in sterile containers determining positive uroculture in the microbiological analyses. The results show that bacillus E. coli is the primary agent for such infection with 71,5%, followed by Klebsiella spp with 28,5%. In addition, the most susceptible group to such contagion was the group of elderly woman due to factors in their anatomy and physiology impaired by age and the misuse of antibiotics or discontinuation of therapeutic treatment, generating bacterial resistance and resulting in this being aggravated and tending to use broad-spectrum antibiotics. Good genital hygiene practices are recommended in seniors and the correct use of antibiogram by the health personnel in order to minimize the presence of these bacterial pathogens.en-US
