Síndrome de Burnout en cuidadores de pacientes con alteraciones del neurodesarrollo pertenecientes al Centro de Desarrollo Infantil Universidad de Cuenca (CEDIUC) entre el periodo de noviembre y diciembre del 2022

Background: Burnout syndrome is more common in those who care for others, especially in highly committed people such as caregivers of children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
Objective: To determine the frequency of Burnout Syndrome in caregivers of patients with neurodevelopmental disorders belonging to the Child Development Center of the University of Cuenca (CEDIUC) between the period of November and December 2022.
Materials and methods: The study has a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. The population corresponds to 50 caregivers of patients with neurodevelopmental disorders. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to assess burnout and the family APGAR for family functionality. The IBM-SPSS program was used for the descriptive statistical analysis of frequency and percentages presented in frequency distribution tables.
Results: 84.0% were women, mainly mothers 72.0%, with a mean age of 32.84 years, average education 76.0% and unemployed 58.0%. The most frequent disorders were: speech difficulties 18.0% and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) 14.0%. Family functionality was normal in 42.0% and dysfunction was mild in 24.0%. Burnout frequency was 22.0%, with low levels of emotional exhaustion 48.0% and depersonalization 50.0%. Personal fulfillment had high levels at 44.0%.
Conclusions: The caregivers were generally mothers, with secondary education and unemployed. The most frequent disorders were speech difficulties and ASD. Family functionality was mostly normal. Burnout frequency was lower than in other studies.
