Resumen
The objective of this work is to design a model to determine the level of sustainability of
associative enterprises in zone 6 of Ecuador. It is developed in three stages, the first stage
focuses on the bibliographic research that allows obtaining information to determine the variables
to be used in data collection and processing. In the second stage of the project, the research
variables are established using the Delphi method, in which we worked together with experts in
the area of Industrial Engineering, Sociology and the Institute of Popular and Solidarity Economy
(IEPS), for the development of a survey containing the specific variables that allow the collection
of information. In the third stage, data processing is carried out using the Brown and Gibson
methodology, which is quantitative in nature, evaluating the objective and subjective variables,
resulting in a numerical rating. For the graphic representation of the model, the sustainability
barometer is used, allowing the identification of 5 levels to categorize the associative enterprises:
Fully sustainable, Almost sustainable, Moderately sustainable, Not very sustainable and
Unsustainable. The instrument was applied to a total of 21 associative enterprises, identifying
certain key factors for the sustainable development of the enterprises that correspond to
economic factors: occupational margin and acid test, and with respect to business relationships:
meeting with management and continuous improvement, are those activities that develop a
sustainable aspect within the region. Additionally, the results show that environmental factors are
a weak point within the associative enterprises in Zone 6 of Ecuador.
