Resumen
Emotional intelligence is a set of skills that allow people to generate new abilities that are
important when establishing healthy interpersonal relationships. In addition, it encourages the
development of defense mechanisms that allow mental health professionals, face situations
with elevated emotional demands. On the other hand, Happiness involves levels of
satisfaction, positive thought and trust. It is important to understand that Emotional Intelligence
produces emotional stability and personal, social and work welfare in people, which leads to
levels of fulfillment and happiness, improving their quality of life. According to the above
information, this research was proposed as a general objective to determine the relationship
between Emotional Intelligence and Happiness among Psychology School students from the
University of Cuenca during the season 2020-2021. The study had a quantitative approach,
non-experimental, cross-sectional, retrospective design and correlational scope. We worked
with the Emotional Intelligence project database in students from the Psychology majors of
Universities of Cuenca-Ecuador, from the validation of the WLEIS-S in the 2020-2021 time
period, from which a sample of 248 students from the University of Cuenca was taken. The
applied instruments were the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) and the
Lima de Alarcón Happiness Scale (EFL). As results, the description of Emotional Intelligence
and its influence on Happiness in Psychology students was obtained, which serves to promote
professional psychologists training and boost new research related to this topic.
