Análisis de los procesos de socialización del patrimonio cultural en el cantón Sígsig, entre el periodo 2008 al 2022

Abstract

Socialization is a fundamental element of human action that allows for the transmission of knowledge, ideas, signs, symbols, practices, and products from one generation to another and between cultures. In Ecuador, low levels of socialization in general, but especially regarding cultural heritage, are among the main problems surrounding the loss of memory and identity. In the case of the Ecuadorian southern region, this issue has been reflected in the impacts and losses that have occurred concerning the material and immaterial wealth possessed by this region. This research examines the processes, types, phases, agents, and spaces of socialization in relation to the cultural heritage of Sígsig canton. Methodologically, this work is based on a qualitative approach with a narrative research design. The information gathering techniques included semi-structured interviews, social mapping, and qualitative text analysis. As a result of this investigation, it was found that there are processes of socialization of cultural heritage, mainly facilitated by the family, specifically concerning the transmission of the representative intangible heritage of this canton. Based on these results, it was concluded that while the processes of socialization are evident, they are primarily focused on intangible heritage. In contrast, concerning tangible heritage, there are risks due to the lack of initiatives that transmit and promote these assets and heritage sites.
