In order to achieve an adequate development of intercultural education, it is essential to have
a qualified and sensitive teaching team, capable of putting into practice the philosophical and
pedagogical principles of interculturalism proposed in the Model of the Intercultural Bilingual
Education System. In view of this, the objective was to determine the degree of intercultural
sensitivity and general application of the intercultural bilingual curriculum of the teachers in
the community education units of District 03D02 Cañar-Tambo-Suscal. To meet this objective,
a mixed (quantitative and qualitative) research approach was designed, with a correlational
scope and observational, prospective and cross-sectional typology. We worked with a
population sample of 98 teachers who work in the community educational units of district
03D02 Cañar-Tambo-Suscal, to whom we applied an adaptation of the "Questionnaire for the
analysis of intercultural sensitivity"; at the same time, semi-structured interviews were
conducted with five heads of the technical-pedagogical commissions of the educational units.
As a result, it was found that the degree of intercultural sensitivity of the teachers is 4.34, i.e.
a high level of sensitivity. At the same time, it is concluded that the teachers belonging to the
district investigated, at least from their own personal perspective, are ready to take on
pedagogical actions that promote greater interculturality in their classes.
