Características clínicas de las mujeres adultas tempranas con infertilidad del área de ginecología del Hospital de Especialidades José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca 2017-2020

Background: The WHO defines female infertility as a health problem focused on the
anatomical and functional condition of the reproductive system, causing women of
childbearing age with an active sexual life to be unable to become pregnant over a period of
time. The prevalence of female infertility in recent years in Ecuador is 10%.
Objectives: To determine the clinical characteristics of early adult women with infertility in the
gynecology area of the Hospital de Especialidades José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca 2017-
2020.
Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, the sample was 102 early adult women with a
diagnosis of infertility, data were collected from digital medical records in the AS-400 system,
information placed in the questionnaire conducted by the researchers, subsequently analyzed
in the SPSS 23.0 program. The results were presented in tables using descriptive statistics.
Results: Patients were predominantly between 31 and 35 years old (40.2%), with second
level of education and 36.3% married. The 49% presented endocrine, 43.1% ovarian, 31.4%
uterine, 16.7% peritoneal and 18.6% tubal clinical features. 26.5% had exposure to chemical
substances, 66.7% consumed cigarettes, 35.3% alcoholic beverages, 7.8% drugs. In addition,
4.9% of women have catastrophic diseases, 63.7% are exposed to stressful situations, 33.3%
have family history of infertility and 17.6% preferred to extend the time to conceive.
Conclusions: The clinical characteristics with greater relevance obtained in the study were
similar to those reviewed in different bibliographies.
