Mario Boza forged a strong alliance with the United States Peace Corps and actively sought volunteers for assistance during the early days of the development of the national parks system. Mario recognized the value of Peace Corps volunteers (PCVs) as they were university educated, had good command of Spanish and were willing to engage in any task requested of them while not protesting about discomforts. Mario initially recruited PCVs in the 1970s to help develop the infrastructure of the nascent National Park Service as well as to conduct biological inventories and historical documentation of the proposed parks. In the 1980s, Mario reached out to the Peace Corps once again for assistance in a national environmental education campaign to increase awareness of the need to protect wildlands and Costa Rica’s biodiversity.Mario Boza forjó una fuerte alianza con el Cuerpo de Paz de los Estados Unidos y buscó activamente voluntarios para obtener ayuda durante los primeros días del desarrollo del sistema de parques nacionales. Mario reconoció el valor de los voluntarios del Cuerpo de Paz (PCV) ya que tenían educación universitaria, dominaban bien el español y estaban dispuestos a participar en cualquier tarea que se les pidiera sin protestar por las molestias. Mario inicialmente reclutó PCV en la década de 1970 para ayudar a desarrollar la infraestructura del naciente Servicio de Parques Nacionales, así como para realizar inventarios biológicos y documentación histórica de los parques propuestos. En la década de 1980, Mario se acercó nuevamente al Cuerpo de Paz para solicitar ayuda en una campaña nacional de educación ambiental para aumentar la conciencia sobre la necesidad de proteger las tierras silvestres y la biodiversidad de Costa Rica.
