At the end of the 19th century, Costa Rica was experiencing a cultural project proposed by the liberals of the time, in which it sought to create a modern national identity, influenced to a great extent by those Costa Rican intellectuals who studied in Europe, and who came with ambitious projects. modernization, which included deportes practice.Therefore, the objective of this historical semblance is to rescue as part of the historical memory of Costa Rican deportes, the first athletic games held in the country at the beginning of the 20th century. The activity included 14 events, including track and field tests and also the first recorded foot test.For the realization of this event, the first athletic track in the country was built in La Sabana, leaving a permanent legacy to this day. The games were so well organized that the participation of women was included. Some of these tests are still valid today at the national and international level, which would allow further research on the technical and historical evolution of athletics in Costa Rica.A finales del siglo XIX, Costa Rica experimentaba un proyecto cultural propuesto por los liberales de la época en el cual se buscaba crear una identidad nacional moderna e influenciada, en gran medida, por aquellos intelectuales costarricense que estudiaron en Europa y que volvían con ambiciosos proyectos de modernización, entre los que se incluían la práctica deportiva. Por lo que el objetivo de la presente semblanza histórica es rescatar, como parte de la memoria del deporte costarricense, los primeros juegos atléticos celebrados en el país a principios del siglo XX. La actividad contempló 14 eventos en los que se incluyen pruebas de pista, campo y, además, la primera prueba pedestre registrada. Para la realización de dicho evento, se llegó a construir la primera pista atlética del país, en la Sabana, lo cual dejó un legado permanente hasta el día de hoy. Fueron unos juegos tan bien organizados, que estaba incluida la participación de las mujeres. Algunas de esas pruebas, todavía hoy en día están vigentes a nivel nacional e internacional, por lo que permitiría continuar con investigaciones sobre evolución técnica e histórica del atletismo en Costa Rica.
