dc.descriptionCertain types of malocclusions are triggered by the presence of habits. Some habits can alter the shape and structure of the muscles, however; In most cases this is not the case, because there is a dynamic equilibrium between the forces that act on the stomatognathic apparatus, since they act in different directions with different potential and rhythm, reaching equilibrium by canceling each other. Digital suction is one of the most common oral habits that produce dentofacial anomalies in the vertical plane of space. Although the thumb suction is the most frequent, one or more fingers can be suctioned and its effect will depend on the position, intensity, frequency and duration of the suction, therefore, the malocclusion it causes is a consequence of the functional anomaly, which it requires treatment with physical agents and most likely combined with functional and mechanical devices active in the period of mixed dentition.
dc.descriptionCiertos tipos de maloclusiones se desencadenan por la presencia de hábitos.Algunos hábitos pueden alterar la forma y estructura de los músculos, sin embargo; en la mayoría de los casos no ocurre así, porque existe un equilibrio dinámico entre las fuerzas que actúan sobre el aparato estomatognatico, dado que actúan en diferentes direcciones con diferente potencial y ritmo, llegando a equilibrarse al anularse entre si. La succión digital es uno de los hábitos orales más comunes que producen anomalías dentofaciales en el plano vertical del espacio. Aunque lo más frecuente es la succión del pulgar pueden succionarse uno o más dedos y su efecto va a depender de la posición, intensidad, frecuencia y duración de la succión, por lo tanto, la maloclusión que ocasiona es consecuencia de la anomalía funcional, que requiere tratamiento con agentes físicos y muy probable combinado con aparatos funcionales y mecánicos activos en el periodo de dentición mixta.
