In the Manual de zoología fantástica, Jorge Luis Borges displayed a wide relation of historical, literary, sacred, philosophical, and mythological sources, both from east and West. Beforethe natural consideration of identifying such catalog as the product of a collective imagination, Borges, nevertheless, was capable to pervade it with his peculiar style through passages, subjectsand recurrent obsessions. This article reveals that, for Borges, a text that is repeated is susceptibleto become in a different text, that the rewriting evolves in creation, and that the work of others maytransform in the germ of a personal and intimate representation.En el Manual de zoología fantástica, Jorge Luis Borges desplegó una amplísima relación defuentes históricas, literarias, sagradas, filosóficas y mitológicas, tanto de oriente como de occidente. Ante la natural consideración de identificar dicho catálogo como el producto de un imaginario colectivo, Borges, no obstante, fue capaz de impregnarlo de su peculiar estilo a través de pasajes, temas y obsesiones recurrentes. El presente artículo expone que, para Borges, un texto que se repite es susceptible de convertirse en otro, que la reescritura deviene en creación, y que la obra de los demás puedetransformarse en germen de representación personal e íntima.
