| dc.description | La caña de azúcar ( Saccharum officinarum) es uno de los principales cultivos en México. El once de marzo del 2019 se declaró a la enfermedad COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) como pandemia, esto tuvo una repercusión negativa en los sistemas agroalimentarios. Actualmente no existen estudios que hayan abordado cómo la pandemia afectó a los productores de caña de azúcar en el principal estado productor de caña del país. Por lo que el objetivo de esta fue evaluar la percepción de los productores de caña de azúcar ante el COVID-19. Se aplicó una encuesta a 302 productores en el Estado de Veracruz. Los resultados muestran que las innovaciones en el cultivo de caña que más realizaban los productores antes de la pandemia ya no se realizaron durante la pandemia. En lo que respecta a las medidas sanitarias, en su mayoría fueron atendidas salvo aquellas donde ellos eran responsables de capacitar a sus jornaleros. En las actividades durante la zafra, la gran mayoría desconocía si las actividades fueron llevadas a cabo por los responsables de hacerlo. En lo que se refiere al impacto, lo más afectado fue su poder adquisitivo, porque el resto de las actividades, las siguieron haciendo con normalidad. En lo que se refiere al impacto en su salud, la mayoría refirió no contraer COVID-19 aunque sí vivieron con temor a la enfermedad, y aproximadamente el 15% reportó que sus jornaleros se contagiaron. Se concluye que la pandemia por COVID-19 afectó más en el temor a contagiarse, que en las actividades realizadas. Debido a la manera en que el sector está organizado, los productores perciben que este es poco resiliente, mientras que ellos se consideran como capaces de reponerse de las crisis. _______________ SUGARCANE GROWERS PERCEPCION REGARDING COVID-19. ABSTRACT: Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) is one of the main crops in Mexico. On March 11, 2019, the disease COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) was declared a pandemic, this had a negative impact on agri-food systems. There are currently no studies that have addressed how the pandemic affected sugarcane growers in the country’s top sugarcane-producing state. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the perception of sugarcane producers regarding COVID-19. A survey was applied to 302 producers in the State of Veracruz. The results show that most of the innovations in sugarcane cultivation that producers carried out before the pandemic were no longer carried out during the pandemic. Regarding sanitary measures, most of them were attended to except those where they were responsible for training their own workers. Regarding the activities during the harvest season, the vast majority did not know if the activities were carried out by those responsible for doing so. For the impact, they established that what was mostly affected was their purchasing power, for the rest of the activities, they continued to do them normally. In which concerns the impact on their health, the majority reported not contracting COVID-19 although they did live in fear of getting the disease, and approximately 15% reported that their workers were infected with COVID-19. It is concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic affected farmers mainly with the fear of being infected more than disturbing the activities carried out. Due to the way in which the sector is organized, producers perceive that it is not very resilient, while they consider themselves capable of recovering from crises. | |
