| dc.description | En el estado de Veracruz, la región centro se identifica estadísticamente como la de mayor importancia en la producción de papayo. Al ser un cultivo con alta demanda de recursos financieros para su establecimiento y mantenimiento, el objetivo de esta investigación fue revisar y analizar los esquemas de operación del crédito agrícola, para identificar el uso del financiamiento por los productores de papayo, así como su impacto en el nivel tecnológico y productivo de este agroecosistema. Se diseñó un cuestionario semiestructurado. Se aplicó a 114 productores seleccionados mediante el método de bola de nieve en 45 localidades de siete municipios. El total de los entrevistados son varones con edad media de 48 años y escolaridad de 5.7 años. La superficie sembrada refleja una variación desde 0.75 hasta 20 ha. Los rendimientos fluctúan entre 10 t a 160 t haˉ¹. Solo el 2.6 % de los productores ha hecho uso de algún tipo de crédito; el 77.2 % de los productores utilizan los recursos propios. El 74.6 % manifestó no conocer ninguna fuente de financiamiento. Los comentarios de otros productores son el principal medio por el que se enteran de opciones de financiamiento. Reportan un amplio margen en el costo de producción por hectárea que oscila entre los $7,500 hasta los $130,000 pesos haˉ¹. El uso de tecnología es independiente del tipo de financiamiento utilizado. El rendimiento medio por hectárea de los productores que no han hecho uso de financiamiento, es superior al de productores que si han utilizado financiamiento. _______________ CREDIT USE IN THE PAPAYA AGROECOSYSTEM (Carica papaya L.) AT CENTRAL VERACRUZ, MEXICO. ABSTRACT: In Veracruz, Mexico, the central region is the most important area for papaya production. As this crop shows high demand of financial resources for its establishment and maintenance, the aim of this research was to analyze the credit operational system, to identify its use by papaya producers, its impact on the technological level and productivity as well. A semi-structured questionnaire was applied to 114 papaya producers chosen by the snowball method in 45 localities that belong to seven municipalities. All the respondents were men with a mean age of 48 years and 5.7 years of scholarly. Papaya plantations areas varies from 0.75 to 20 hectares. Yields fluctuate between 10 to 160 t per hectare. Only 2.6 % of farmers reported using any credit system, but 77.2 % of producers responded that they use the self-saving system. 74.6 % of contestants affirmed not knowing any financing source; on the contrary, comments from other farmers are the means to find out about financial options. Production costs range from $7,500 to $130,000 pesos per hectare. The technological level is independent from the financing option used. Those farmers that were not under any credit system, as compared with farmers that use any credit, obtained higher yields. | |
