dc.descriptionResumen en español: "El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en describir y analizar las transformaciones socioambientales que trajo consigo la producción de pantalones de mezclilla en un municipio rural: Tepetitla de Lardizábal, Tlaxcala. A partir del uso de métodos mixtos se indagaron los efectos sociales producto de la transformación económica y ambiental en este municipio, si bien existieron dificultades para el trabajo etnográfico, ya que los talleres y lavanderías operan de manera informal y clandestina, se logró obtener información de primera mano tanto de trabajadores como de dueños. Se concluye que la degradación del río Atoyac se ha agravado con la presencia de los talleres de confección y lavanderías de mezclilla formales e informales altamente contaminantes. La búsqueda de soluciones a corto y mediano plazo se ha visto obstaculizada por la falta voluntad política, pero también por cierta resistencia de los dueños y trabajadores de las maquiladoras. Los talleres son para la gran mayoría de la población la única fuente de ingresos, por lo que el problema de la contaminación, al menos a corto plazo, parece no tener respuesta; sin embargo, las consecuencias en términos de salud y deterioro ambiental son cada vez más evidentes. "
dc.descriptionResumen en inglés: "The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the social and environmental changes created by the production of jeans in a rural municipality: Tepetitla de Lardizabal, Tlaxcala. Mixed methods were used to investigate the social effects of the economic and environmental transformation of this municipality. It should be noted that difficulties were experienced in the ethnographic work, since the workshops and laundries operate informally and clandestinely, although the author managed to obtain first-hand information from both workers and owners. The paper concludes that the degradation of the Atoyac river has been exacerbated by the presence of both formal and informal denim workshops and laundries, which are highly polluting. The search for short- and medium-term solutions is hampered by the lack of political will coupled with a degree of resistance from the maquiladora owners and workers. Since for the vast majority of the population, the workshops constitute the only source of income, the pollution problem is unlikely to be resolved in the short term; however, the consequences in terms of health and environmental deterioration are increasingly evident. "
