Puerto Rican writer Luis Palés Matos is known for his role as a poet, standing out especially for his creations of black theme among which stands out Tuntún de pasa y grifería. Poemas afroantillanos (1937). However, the vate guayamés worked other forms not only in the field of poetry, but also gave us interesting examples of narrative (his novel Litoral, severalessays and short stories) and, what is more surprising, he wrote the First Act of a play: Mar gruesa (Drama en tres actos). Therefore, in an attempt to gauge the importance of this text within the literary trajectory of Palés, in this work we propose to analyze the content of this unfinished drama by placing it in the socio-historical and literary context of the generation of 30 in Puerto Rico and, at the same time, putting it in relation to the whole of the author‘s work.El escritor puertorriqueño Luis Palés Matos es conocido por su faceta como poeta, sobresaliendo de manera especial por sus creaciones de tema negro entre las que destaca Tuntún de pasa y grifería. Poemas afroantillanos (1937). Sin embargo, el vate guayamés trabajó otras formas no solo en el campo de la poesía, sino que también nos brindó interesantes ejemplosde narrativa (su novela Litoral, varios ensayos y cuentos) y, lo que es más sorprendente, escribió el Primer acto de una obra de teatro: Mar gruesa (Drama en tres actos). Por ello, en un intento por calibrar la importancia de este texto dentro de la trayectoria literaria de Palés, en este trabajo nos proponemos analizar el contenido de este drama inconcluso situándolo en el contexto sociohistórico y literario de la generación del 30 en Puerto Rico y, al mismo tiempo, poniéndolo en relación con el conjunto de la obra del autor.
