Puerto Rico has two official languages: Spanish and English, due to its political status of Commonwealth of the United States. Even though that only 25% of the Puerto Ricans are bilingual, Spanish, which is the native tongue, has to allow English to be used especially on the formal register (written and administrative language). Also, the circular migration that occurs in the Island has made possible the use of both languages in every potential setting. In this article we describe several linguistic changes that have been identified.Puerto Rico tiene dos lenguas oficiales, español e inglés, debido a su situación política de ser un Estado Libre Asociado a los EE.UU. Como consecuencia de ello, y a pesar de que sólo un 25%, aproximadamente, de puertorriqueños es bilingüe, el español, que es su lengua materna, tiene que ceder algunos espacios de uso al inglés, especialmente los más cercanos a los registros formales (lengua escrita y administrativa). Además, la migración circular que se ha producido en la Isla establece otros escenarios de convivencia de las dos lenguas. En este artículo se describen algunos de los procesos de cambio lingüístico identificados.
