This family is recognized in Peru with nine genera and approximately 45 species (Tryon & Stolze, 1993; Smith et al., 2005). Only one species is an endemic, and it mainly occupies forests in the region of the Humid Premontane Forest. Solamente una especie es endémica, la cual ocupa principalmente los bosques de la región del Bosque Húmedo Premontano. Esta especie ha sido escasamente recolectada y no se halla en un área protegida.
