dc.descriptionThis work is an attempt to prove that the scepticism exposed by Sextus Em­piricus in his Outlines of Pyrrhonism is not only a theory of knowledge but also a therapeutic model based in the possibility of healing by the effect of the word. In order to provide a context for the author and his work, the cultural characteristics of his era has been analyzed as well as to explain why during the Hellenistic period there was an increasing concern to treat the soul’s affec­tions. Additionally, it has been explained how from the Classical antiquity to well into the Hellenistic period, the exhortations to the virtue, which Sextus Empiricus was a successor, acquired the form of a verbal therapy.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente trabajo intenta probar que el escepticismo expuesto por Sexto Empírico en su Esbozos pirrónicos no es tanto una teoría del conocimien­to cuanto un modelo terapéutico basado en la curación por la palabra. Para contextualizar al autor y su obra se analizan las características culturales de la época con el objeto de explicar, además, por qué durante el periodo hele­nístico hubo una creciente preocupación por tratar las afecciones del alma. Asimismo, se expone cómo es que las exhortaciones a la virtud, de las cuales Sexto Empírico es continuador, adquirían desde la Antigüedad clásica hasta bien entrado el periodo helenístico la forma de una terapia verbal.es-ES
