dc.descriptionThe Mexican government has dedicated countless financial and human resources to vaquita conservation. Since the creation of the Upper Gulf of California Biosphere Reserve in 1993, protecting the species from extinction has been a priority. The restricted habitat has placed this species within the protected status and at risk of extinction. After many years of biological and social studies, we can affirm that fishing activities are encouraged by the local market demand for fish and shrimp. These activities are carried out intensively using gill nets for eight months of the year. On the other hand, there are no real economic alternatives for more than 4,000 fishermen. It is necessary to find a solution to the precarious situation of the fishermen and avoid the disappearance of endangered species.en-US
dc.descriptionEl gobierno mexicano ha dedicado innumerables recursos financieros y humanos para la conservación de la vaquita marina. Desde la creación de la Reserva de la Biosfera del Alto Golfo de California en 1993, ha sido una prioridad proteger la especie de extinción. El hábitat restringido ha colocado a esta especie dentro del estado de protección y riesgo de extinción. Después de muchos años de estudios biológicos y sociales, podemos afirmar que las actividades pesqueras intensivas utilizando redes de enmalle durante ocho meses anuales fomentada por un mercado local considerable para el pescado y el camarón. Por otro lado, no hay alternativas económicas reales para más de 4000 pescadores. Es necesario encontrar una solución a la precaria situación de los pescadores y evitar desaparición de las especies en peligro de extinción.es-ES
