Aim: This study evaluated the effect of metformin glycinate on glycated hemoglobin A1c (A1C) concentration and insulin sensitivity in drug-naive adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Subjects and Methods: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was carried out in 20 patients with drug-naive T2DM. Ten subjects received metformin glycinate (1,050.6 mg) once daily during the first month and force-titrated twice daily during the second month. Ten additional patients received placebo as the control group. Before and after the intervention, metabolic profile including A1C and insulin sensitivity (euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp technique) was estimated. Results: A1C concentrations decreased significantly with metformin glycinate administration (8.0 0.7% vs. 7.1 0.9%, P=0.008) before and after the intervention, respectively. There were significant differences in changes from baseline of A1C between groups (0.0 0.7% vs. -1.0 0.5% for placebo and metformin glycinate groups, respectively; P=0.004). A reduction of ?1% in A1C levels was reached in 60.0% of patients with metformin glycinate administration (P=0.02). Insulin sensitivity was not modified by the intervention. Conclusions: Administration of metformin glycinate during a 2-month period showed a greater decrease in A1C concentrations than placebo in a selected group of drug-naive adult patients with T2DM. Two domains were used, one for training and other for testing counterbalancing their order of presentation. Second-order matching-to-sample arrays were built using paintings as instances considering one of two domains: by style (how the painting is represented) or by theme (what it is represented on the painting). During the transfer test session, participants had to build a matching-to-sample array using the same instances but considering the untrained domain. Performance on test was evaluated qualitatively (reconstructing real time performance of participants) and quantitatively (estimating the number of arrays that were congruent with the new matching criterion). Participants who had to describe the matching criteria during training had a better performance on the extradimensional transfer test than those who did not explicitly describe matching criteria. Building matching-to-sample arrays using a new matching criterion seems to be a categorical adjustment task useful when studying referential substitutive behavior.",,,,,,"10.5514/rmac.v37.i2.26145",,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/40908","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-80053083426&partnerID=40&md5=9c2da180f727816d8b4ed8d234739e44",,,,,,"2",,"Revista Mexicana de Analisis de la Conducta",,"155

Materials and methods: Juveniles of M. tenellum (0.31 0.01g and 32.62 1.10mm) were fed for 60 days with 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40% of CP in feed. The organisms were randomly distributed in 15 experimental tanks (15 org /tank) under controlled conditions (5.95 0.41 ppm of oxygen, 29.89 0.72 °C, and pH 8.44 0.15) and fed with 10% of its live weight. Results: The survival percentage was 98.2 3.96% with no statistical difference between treatments (p>0.05). The organisms fed with 40% CP in their diet had a significantly higher weight (p<0.05) compared to the other treatments (weight change of 0.54 0.02g; weight increase 173.60 12.99%, and specific growth rate of 1.68 0.08). The FCA was significantly better (p<0.05) in organisms fed with 35 and 40% CP (2.85 0.18 and 2.40 0.05, respectively) than other treatments. Conclusions: Juveniles of M. tenellum fed with high protein levels (40%) developed faster than organisms which received a lower concentration of the protein under the experimental conditions established for this study.",,,,,,,,,"http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12104/40928","http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?eid=2-s2.0-84872318406&partnerID=40&md5=41f8b55fdf5b06329cc1054fbbc00ffa",,,,,,"3",,"Revista MVZ Cordoba",,"3140

Guillen, L.",,"2010",,"The courtship acoustics of five species of parasitoid wasps (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), potential candidates for augmentative biological control of Anastrepha (Schiner) species (Diptera: Tephritidae), were compared between recently colonized individuals and those continuously reared 70-148 generations. During courtship, males of these parasitoid species fan their wings and produce a series of low amplitude pulses. The first series of 15 or more continuous courtship pulses was used to measure the pulse duration, frequency, and interpulse interval (IPI) from the beginning, middle, and end of the pulse series. Each parameter was compared between young and old colonies, and among species. Several differences in courtship acoustics were detected in colonies that had been continuously reared. The pulse duration at the end of the pulse series was longer in old colonies for Doryctobracon crawfordi (Viereck) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), but shorter for old colonies of Diachasmimorpha longicaudata (Ashmead) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). The IPI of the middle pulse was shorter in old colonies of Opius hirtus (Fischer) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), and was also shorter at the last pulse for old colonies of both Utetes anastrephae (Viereck) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and D. longicaudata. The duration of the middle pulse distinguished the three native species, and separated the two introduced species from each other. We discuss our findings in light of their biological and applied implications, particularly those dealing with quality control of mass-reared parasitoids.
